matt solon
it would be difficult to describe matt solon as anything other than colorful–in life, his work, and his music. well well known in pawlet, vt for his paintings on the house in which he resided for about 20 years, his legacy of huge portraits, largely of famous people on the front of the dwelling, will not easily be forgotten.
the house being described is now inhabited by the writer of this blog and from time to time people just drop in to ask what has become of those paintings. to remind many readers of some of those portraits, a few will be posted now to jog the memory (and yes, these are about 15 feet high):
matt, originally from the new york city area, moved to vermont in 1983. he earned his BA from hamilton college in clinton, ny and went on to receive his MFA from the university of arizona. working largely in oils and well known for his local scenes of the surrounding areas mostly in rutland county, many people own paintings of their homes or businesses that matt has painted for them. some of his pieces might be available by checking his web site listed at the end of this post:
he has done work for the town of pawlet for their 250th birthday, a substantial amount of custom work, portraits, and most recently, the interior of a local restaurant in poultney, trolley stop.
